A Bit About Gary Crowder
Gary was born and raised in the West Yorkshire town of Keighley.
He knew he wanted to make art from an early age, but under pressure to get a proper job, he joined the RAF instead!
In the nineties he got a chance to follow his dreams, and began his formal art education eventually gaining a BA (HONS) in fine art at Bretton Hall, Wakefiield.
Gary has recently spent time in places such as the Falkland Islands, North Eastern Scotland, and the remoter parts of his native Yorkshire.
His aim is to make images that create a tension between observation, and the experience of being in a place. He plays with the balance between abstraction and representation in order to express the experience in a meaningful and harmonious way
“I find his work very interesting with a strong emotional response in the ambiguous hinted at imagery. His work displays a fresh childlike sensitivity, coupled with a strong, sophisticated handling of the paint and materials.”
